Old Motel Gets New Beginning

January 25, 2012

Miracle Mile in midtown Tucson was once home to some of the most popular motor courts in Arizona, but the street lost much of its luster when Interstate 10 was completed, drastically reducing vehicular traffic in the area.

Now a group of Tucson residents is giving one of Miracle Mile's motels, Monterey Court, a new lease on life. The restoration features spaces for a gallery, studio, music venue and other attractions.

The new Monterey Court hopes to have a few major events each year to give residents an opportunity to enjoy local, national and international talent. The first of its gatherings will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29.

Organizers Morrighan Clinco, artistic director of the Parasol Project, and Carl Hanni join Arizona Illustrated to discuss the weekend lineup.

The piano bar with Jim Allen will be fun as will the local line up. Night time with dj Camillo Lara should be memorable.
