Mining in Davidson Canyon

August 5, 2009

Even though the Pima County Board of Supervisors is on record against mining in Davidson Canyon and in the Santa Rita Mountains, it will be up to Congress to change the Mining Law of 1872 to ensure changes are made in how this country mines its natural resources. So says Pima County Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard Elias.

Chair Elias says supervisors are delaying a vote until August 17th on whether to battle buffelgrass from the air. They want more public input before making a decision allowing aerial spraying on about 12 acres in the Tucson Mountains. Two public meetings will be held before supervisors decide whether to allow the helicopter spraying.
