Non-Partisan City Elections

Election Night 2009 for the City of Tucson is one for the history books. Not only was an incumbent defeated, it may have been the last partisan election for the city.

A new state law makes all city elections non-partisan but not everyone thinks that is a good idea. Some political scientists say that a non-partisan election will decrease already low voter turnout. But at the same time some politicians disagree, saying it doesn't matter to them.
