View Video Art Tourism Attracting the art traveler — November 12, 2009

Maybe you've never heard of experiential travel but experts says tens of millions of Americans take part in it every year, contributing billions of dollars to the nation's economy. Among other things, this type of travel involves people who want to be active in learning about a community. They will often visit ethnic neighborhoods, learn about customs and music, cooking or other cultural activities.

Tourist destinations are marketing to these arts travelers and Tucson is no exception. One major option is the annual Tucson Open Studio Tour being held this weekend with a record-number of more than 160 participating artists. The event is organized by the Tucson Pima Arts Council which encourages visitors to attend so they can meet artists in person and learn more about their particular works.
