Arizona's Proposition 200, the Payday Loan Reform Act, promises to be one of the most contentious ballot initiatives this political season. The payday loan industry is funding efforts to pass Prop 200 in Arizona, and to date has spent upwards of 2 million dollars to secure the business-as-usual measure. Opposition to the so called "reform" act has coalesced into a vocal force, albeit a comparatively underfunded one. Members of the "No on 200" coalition are a diverse group, and include individuals with personal accounts of how their lives have been affected by the quick-fix allure of the small cash loan. We explore the issue here, and talk to some of the players currently engaged in the debate.
