High gas prices may impact fares — June 6, 2008
The City's Transportation Department says high gas prices, a reduction in city support and other factors are making it necessary to seek additional funds and they're seeking a fare increase as a result. Under the proposal, regular fares would increase from $1 to $1.25, monthly passes would rise from $28 to $35, economy fares would go up by 10 cents from 40 to 50, and a one day pass would see a spike of 50%: from two to three dollars. If the mayor and council approve the change it would go into effect on July 1st.
