ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) also called Lou Gehrig's disease after the famous New York Yankee who lost his life to the disorder, is a progressive and fatal disease that causes weakening of the skeletal muscles and eventually respiratory failure.
No one knows what causes it and there is no cure however, promising research right here at the UA's Jim Himelic Neuromuscular Research Lab is offering hope.
